Nongjrong Village, surrounded in the beautiful East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya, India, is a beautiful secluded agricultural village that gives the visitor both the scenic and cultural experience. For a breathtaking view of the sunrise and warm-hearted people of Nongjrong becoming friendly neighbours Meghalaya’s countryside captures its essence perfectly. The distance from Shillong is about 50KM which take around 2 hours to reach there.

Nongjrong Village is located at the eastern part of Meghalaya within the slopes of the East Khasi hill range. The village is situated at a rather high altitude, so when in the village one will be able to have a vantage view of the surrounding hills and valleys. Even in the best of times, there appears to be a rather cool and temperate environment with rainfall being very frequent to support the apparently greener region. It boasts of a glamorous scenery such as hilly terrains with the frequent mystery of mist ,azure flowers as well as natural fresh streams running across the village. The proximity to tourist sites such as Umiam Lake and the Living Root Bridges also makes the village very aesthetically appealing.

The people of the village are mainly the Khasi people with a unique cultural practice of women dominance in family issues. Therefore, it can be said that the Khasi language is dominant in Nongjrong, and the linguistic history of the community here is diverse enough. As for the population of the village, it is not very large, so people remain united, and local customs and traditions characterize everything. The main religion is Christianity, but indigenous and local beliefs are also followed to a large extent.
